The soft music of Blul

Meeting  and master classes with Blul player Norayr Kartashyan

The master classes of Norayr Kartashyan and an interesting conversation about Armenian  music have brought together young musicians at “Naregatsi” Art Institute on February 27 and March 1st. By organizing these meetings, the  “Naregatsi” Art Institute has begun the implementation of its  most important  goals  for  2010, to discuss the problems of Armenian music and create a bond  among the young  and elderly musicians.
According to Norayr Kartashayn, blul is one of the first Armenian musical instruments which expresses the peculiarities of the Armenian music. However, blul among other folk musical instruments have been forgotten and betrayed. Mr. Kartashyan also mentioned that duduk is he most popular instrument highly promoted on TV and radio. However, blul is not  very well presented to the public, and that we are in need of new musicians in this field.
The classes were accompanied by live performances  of the master and his students. During the meeting N. Kartashayn also mentioned that  throughout his world  tours  he presented the Armenian blul in number of countries and captivated the foreign spectator's admiration. While in Armenia many people  haven't even heard about this instrument with gentle sound. The musician concluded that one of the reasons that the new generation of Armenians was lacking  interest in the instrument is that its not presented to the public, and that the meetings like to ones at NAI would certainly aid to the solution of such problems.
